When Luke Gowers wakes up in the morning he looks at his laptop immediately, checking over emails that have come in overnight from head office in Israel. Soda Stream has become one of the most rapidly growing businesses in Australia (and indeed, the world), since it was bought out a few years ago then rebranded and retargeted at an international consumer base who’ve drastically changed their drinking habits over the past ten years.
Water has gone on sale to the western world over the last 20 years and as a collective public we’ve taken to it in droves. A commodity that is now considered a premium item. We’re more health conscious now, on the whole, and we think about what we’re putting into our bodies. At least this is what Luke believes. He’s the head of Soda Stream in Australia, and is currently overseeing a huge expansion for the company. “We’ve seen double digit growth year on year over the past few years,” he riffs. “And it’s likely going to be more than that this year.”
